Women & Leadership
IncaThe women in the Inca society had roles that complimented the men. It was custom for a female to marry at sixteen to a man of an equal class.Their roles were a necessity for their society to thrive, opposed to other Spanish religions who did not value women as highly. Due to the women's religion, they had more than one role to fill, just as men did. Women were so powerful and of importance that instead of the men controlling every cult, some women were in charge of a cult dedicated to female goddesses.
In marriage the roles of a wife were simple, and the same even when pregnant. Clean the house, cook, work in the fiellds and watch after the children. Men were the ones to go out and do more of the manual labor. http://www.crystalinks.com/inca_civilization.html http://www.yachana.org/teaching/students/webpages/andean2k/conquest/women.html |
Chinese Indigenous ReligionChinese women were viewed as head of the household, similar to many other religions. their power came from handling the children, especially sons who would bring in wealth, and if married to a rich man, controlling the finances was part of their duties as well. WOmen that were widowed with adult sons had more freedom than when married and their situation was appeared to be the epitome living condition. Sons spoke highly of their mothers, since mothers raised and helped guide them into their success. A woman was able to speak to younger generations and have orders obeyed by adult children. Women just had to keep the house and family in great condition, while the men went out to work and bring home the money.
