Mahayana SutrasOne of the sacred texts used in Buddhist culture is the Mahayana, that encourages wide, imaginative reality.
There are over two thousand Mahayana Sutras which are dated between 200 BCE and 200 CE. The Lotus Sutra is one of the most significant Mahayana sutras. It describes a sermon that Buddha had delivered to speak of becomming a boddhisatva, and the importance behind it. The Heart Sutra is also another well known piece that gives key concepts behind the Mahayana beliefs. It describes the five skandhas, otherwise known as the elements of human nature. The Land of Bliss Sutra explains the story of Buddha's vow to help people reach nirvana. http://www.religionfacts.com/buddhism/texts/sutras.htm |
